FRSA National Conference 2011

When: 8-10 November 2011

Where: RACV Royal Pines Resort, Gold Coast

Over 600 people were in attendance across the 4 days of conference. Keynote speakers included the iconic Dr Edward de Bono, the Attorney General the Hon. Robert McClelland MP, Chief Justice Diana Bryant, Dr Fiona Arney and Jonathan Nicholas. The engaging and inspiring concurrent sessions explored ways and means to build individual and organisational capacity to respond to the complex and changing needs of Australian families. Other conference highlights included a poolside welcome event where delegates could try their hand at the didjeridu and enjoy entertainment by the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts; early morning golf; and the annual FRSA Conference Dinner, mixing with the stars at Movie World.

Australian Economic Forum 2011

The Australian Economic Forum hosted by the Economic Society of Australia (NSW) was held on Thursday and Friday 22 – 23 September 2011 in Sydney. In its third year, the Australian Economic Forum has established itself as a leading forum for economic debate in Australia.

 “The Australian Economic Forum is committed to bringing together Australia’s most highly respected economic minds to lead discussions on policies across key sectors and this year is no exception” says Ed Wilson, President of the Economic Society of Australia NSW.
 
The forum featured an exciting line up of speakers, including Dr Philip Lowe, Assistant Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia who opened the forum, and The Hon. Mike Baird MP, NSW Treasurer provided an insightful Q&A discussion with Quentin Dempster at the Forum dinner.
 
The theme for the 2011 forum ‘The Big Challenges for Economics’. Program highlights included keynote speeches and concurrent sessions on risk and disaster management, workforce and international issues, the NBN, migration, and industry structure, among others.
 
The Forum is an initiative of the Economic Society of Australia. The Society is a professional association that aims to encourage the teaching, study and application of economics in Australia, and to promote the research and public debate of economic questions.

Interrelate Conference – Speak Out and Stop Bullying

2011 marks the 85th birthday of Interrelate Family Centres, an important milestone in their work with clients, the broader community, and their leadership role in the sector. In celebration of this milestone year – they would like to give back to the sector by hosting a one-day conference on bullying, at Doltone House in Sydney on 1 July 2011.

We invite you to be a part of this important conference that offers the sector an opportunity to meet, discuss key issues and network. The conference offers an opportunity for open dialogue between policy makers, practitioners, academics, researchers, and educators to discuss anti-bullying strategies, to hear case studies, gain a better understanding of current research and specific factors affecting the issue, and to identify areas for future collaboration.

The conference will provide a mix facilitated plenary sessions, in-depth interviews and keynote speeches.

Bullying – although not a new phenomenon – has gained traction in recent years with developments in technology and the resulting emergence of cyber bullying, bullying with the help of information and communication technologies such as mobile phones, emails, instant messaging, and, most recently, social media. As individual cases of bullying are becoming increasingly public, being heavily featured in the mainstream media, the public debate on the issue has intensified and with it the demand for effective anti-bullying solutions.

Advance Women's Leadership Summit 2011

Advance is a leading global ‘people to people’ network of Australians and alumni abroad. We are excited to The ADVANCE WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP SUMMIT held at the Sydney Opera House from 7 to 8 March 2011, coincided with the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day.

The Summit highlighted the achievements of some remarkable women, as well as introduce 50 current and emerging leaders who are set to drive the agenda for years to come.

This event builds on the success of previous summits and celebrated and explored the ways women contribute to the development of business, social innovation, commercialisation, and culture across the Asia Pacific region, through panel discussions, keynotes and networking events for the more than 200 attendees.

Emerging Economist Seminar Series 2010/11

Who: Economic Society of Australia (NSW Branch)

The Emerging Economist Seminar Series consists of six bi-monthly luncheon seminars with some of Australia’s leading economists and contributors to economic debate.

Following on from the success of the previous two series, the Economic Society of Australia (NSW Branch) conducted the Emerging Economist Seminar Series for a third year. By bringing together emerging economists from business, academia and the public service, the Emerging Economist Seminar Series provided a unique opportunity for networking and discussion amongst economists who will be facing key economic challenges in the coming years.

The 20010/11 series was opened by Ross Gittins AM and followed by other esteemed presenters including Dr Jill Walker, Gary Banks AO, Prof Stephen King, Saul Eslake, and Ian Macfarlane AC.

The Emerging Economist Series is targeted to early career economists that demonstrate leadership skills in the profession.

Family Relationship Services Australia (FRSA) is the national peak body for family relationship and support services. Together with our member organisations, we work to promote family and individual wellbeing.

The 3rd FRSA Conference built on the success of 2008 and 2009, and attracted over 450 delegates from a range of sectors including family and relationship services, the broader family law and family support sectors, government agencies and leading institutes of research, training and policy analysis.

Fire Brigade Employees Union Centenary Celebrations

Where: Overseas Passenger Terminal, Sydney

October 2010 marks the Centenary Year of the FBEU. The Union marked the occasion with a march through the city and a cocktail function on Sydney Harbour. 1,200 members of the Union from all over NSW gathered at Town Hall to march down George Street and then celebrate at the Overseas Passenger Terminal. DKC International organised the festivities and experienced first-hand how fast firemen can change from their work gear into casual dress.

39th Australian Conference of Economists 2010

When: 27-29 September 2010

Where: Dockside, Sydney

The Australian Conference of Economists is the premier economic conference in Australasia for academics. The conference is hosted by the Economic Society of Australia (NSW Branch) and provides an annual opportunity for economists in the region to come together to discuss and present their current research and to attend keynotes addresses from internationally renowned economists.

More than 200 academic economists from Australia and abroad came to Sydney to meet fellow economists, discuss the newest research in their discipline and attend keynotes addresses on public finance and superannuation, the micro- and macroeconomics, and international finance and trade. The keynote speakers were Peter Diamond (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Michael Keane (UTS), Linda Tesar (University of Michigan), and Carl Walsh (University of California, Santa Cruz).

Peter Diamond has featured heavily in the media since then, as he was recently announced as the recipient of the 2010 Nobel Prize in economics.

White Tie Gala Dinner 2010

Where: Sydney Town Hall

It was yet another fabulous evening with good food, great wine, and wonderful entertainment in one of Sydney’s most iconic and stunning venues, Town Hall – and all for an important cause. The White Ribbon Foundation, which aims to eliminate violence against women in Australia, hosted its annual White Tie Gala Dinner on 15 September and DKC was responsible for the event organisation.

By all accounts, the 2010 Dinner was a huge success. The Foundation welcomed over 400 guests and raised more than $120,000 for its work.

Some of the night’s highlights included a raffle of a 2010 Nissan Dualis, donated by Automotive Holdings Group, musical entertainment by the John Field Band, and an amazing silent auction. Some Dinner favourites from the past years were back as well, including the Ambassador of the Year Award, which serves to emphasise the important work of the White Ribbon Ambassadors, and the ever-popular great debate with Adam Spencer as moderator. Comedians Fiona O'Loughlin, Peter Berner, Steve Abbott (the Sandman) and Tommy Dean debated the topic “There’s Never a Bad Time to Swear”.
 

Australian Economic Forum 2010

The Australian Economic Forum is an initiative of the Economic Society of Australia (NSW Branch). It provides a platform for distinguished economists, business professionals, academics and public servants from all levels of Government to come together and discuss current and future economic issues across a number of COAG policy streams.

The theme of the 2010 Forum was Innovating for a Stronger Economy. The Forum attracted more than 150 attendees and such high-profile speakers as Prof Joseph Stiglitz, Bill Evans, Chief Economist, Westpac, Iarla Flynn, Head of Public Policy and Government Affairs, Google Australia and New Zealand, Dr David Gruen, Executive Director, Macroeconomic Group, Australian Treasury, Dr Kerry Schott, Managing Director, Sydney Water, and Senator The Hon. Nick Sherry, Assistant Treasurer.

Eminent Speaker Series - Prof Joseph Stiglitz

When: 19 July - 7 August 2010

Where: Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Hobart, Canberra, Sydney

As inaugural speaker for the Eminent Speaker Series, Prof Jospeh Stiglitz toured Australia from 19 July to 7 August to conduct a number of public presentations for the Economic Society of Australia. The tour took him first to Perth, then Brisbane, Melbourne, Hobart, Canberra and Sydney. The series has been initiated by the Economic Society of Australia to provide a unique opportunity for industry professionals, government representatives and academics to hear from the world’s leading economists in an open forum.

The series was a great success, being attended in the different cities by more than 5,000 people in total and heavily covered in the media. Among others, Prof Stiglitz spoke to Kerry O’Brien from the 7.30 Report and Ross Gittins from the SMH. (A selection of media coverage is featured on DKC’s Facebook page. 15th International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centres (IAPTC) Conference

When: 23–28 November 2009

Where: Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Sydney

The Australian Defence Force Peacekeeping Centre (on behalf of the Australian Defence Force) and the Australian Federal Police hosted the 15th IAPTC Annual Conference. The conference attracted 187 delegates from 46 countries and 111 organisations.

The Conference provided a unique opportunity for those who work in peacekeeping education, training and operations globally, to come together and discuss key issues relevant to the sector. 

The theme in 2009 explored the needs and benefits of collaborative efforts across the military, police and other peacekeeping organisations, by covering issues specific to training, education, multidimensional teams and other operational issues.

CBAA Annual Conference 2009

The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) is the national peak body for community radio and television stations. The CBAA provides leadership, advocacy and support for members to actively provide independent broadcasting services and to build and strengthen local communities.

30th Australian Family Therapy Conference

The New South Wales Family Therapy Association and the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy hosted the 30th Australian Family Therapy Conference 2009. The three day conference provided an exceptional line up of speakers, interactive workshops, opportunities to network with colleagues and catch up with old friends.

This conference provided a platform to facilitate sharing of ideas and practical solutions and an opportunity for rigorous discussion from a holistic perspective.

Switch to Green Expo and Conference 2009

The Switch to Green Expo and Conference returned for it's second year in 2009 to address Canberra’s progress in its bid to become a Carbon Neutral Capital. Thank you to everyone who supported our annual White Tie Gala Dinner, at Doltone House on Thursday 10th September 2009.

Since it began in 2006, the White Tie Gala Dinner has been offering guests an unforgettable night of inspiration and entertainment, raising money and awareness for the White Ribbon Foundation.

This year, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, delivered the keynote address and announced the White Ribbon Ambassador of the Year.

Guests were highly entertained by the Great Debate with Joe Hockey MP, Tony Burke MP, Mikey Robins and Chris Taylor, while multi-ARIA Award winner, Alex Lloyd provided a stunning performance.

A very special thank you goes to Automotive Holdings Group (AHG), Canturi Jewels, and Monte and Monte for their generous prize donations of a Holden Cruze Car, a beautiful diamond necklace and an inspiring piece of artwork.

Australian Business Events Expo 2009

Amongst the exhibitors at ABEE this year was a small yet perfectly positioned booth belonging to none other than your very own DKC International! Throughout the two day exhibition we watched an eclectic mix of AV, décor, catering and venue suppliers come together to display their wares to the industry. For us the experience proved a great opportunity to proudly showcase the events which we are working on with you, meet new people, as well as strengthen our relationships with the suppliers who will help us make your event a success.

Drs John and Julie Gottman Workshop "Bridging the Couple Chasm"

Relationships Australia, with the support of the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, hosted a two-day workshop presented by international leaders in Couples Therapy, John Gottman, PhD, and Julie Gottman, PhD, on Monday 11 May and Tuesday 12 May 2009 at the Amora Jamison Hotel in Sydney.

This workshop presented a unique opportunity for 150 professionals working in Couples Therapy to learn how to integrate powerful research-based methods to maximise competence and inspire transformation with couples. Based upon Dr. John Gottman’s 35 years of compelling research with over 3,000 couples, this practical approach to couples therapy gives therapists the tools needed to help couples succeed.

White Tie Gala Dinner 2008

Where: Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney

The 2008 White Tie Dinner, held at the Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney, was a fabulous night of an unforgettable line up of superb entertainment. We were delighted to welcome Prime Minister Kevin Rudd who delivered the keynote address and also presented our 2008 White Ribbon Ambassador Award to Mark Burgess.
We also had the dynamic duo; Adam Spencer and Wil Anderson team up with political heavyweights, Joe Hockey and The Hon Tony Burke in the Great Ambassadors Debate! Guests then danced the night away to the SuperFly Soul Revue.
 
Guests could bid on unique auction items or “Buy a White Box” for the chance to win stunning diamond jewellery. The dinner raised $90,000 for the White Ribbon Foundation.
 
The White Ribbon Foundation seeks to eliminate violence against women by promoting cultural change. Through a national media campaign, educational programmes and social initiatives aimed at boys and men, we are starting to make progress. In tackling the pervasive problem of violence against women, we are working with police, schools, government, workplaces, sports and cultural organisations, and many others.

Department of Defence Seminars

DKC was contracted for three years by the Department of Defence as part of a competitive tender process to be on a panel of three event managers.  We provided the coordination and administration of regular seminars for international delegates, usually for periods of two weeks.  Attendees of these seminars are international high ranking defence personnel from all over Asia, the Middle East, and the Pacific region.  Our engagement necessitated that we catered to and are aware of all cultural and religious requirements of such a diverse group.

Emerging Economists Series 2007/08

In 2007, the Economics Society of Australia (NSW Branch) launched the inaugural Emerging Economists Series, a series of 6 bi-monthly luncheon seminars featuring Australian economists and contributors to economic debate. This exciting program is part of an initiative to promote the professional development of emerging economists, and the use of the discipline of economics, to address future challenges. 
 
The program is designed to facilitate the professional development of selected young economists by giving them access to internationally distinguished economic thinkers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in addressing important economic, political and social issues in Australia and overseas.

Relationships Australia (NSW) Showcase

Relationships Australia (NSW) is one of Australia’s largest community-based organisations providing relationship support to all Australians.  In 2008, Relationships Australia (NSW) celebrated 60 years of serving the community. The Relationships Australia (NSW) Showcase was held as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations.

The showcase provided an excellent opportunity for new and experienced employees to meet, to share experiences and ideas that enhance working relationships and provide better services to their clients.

As MC for the day, Julie McCrossin provided a fast paced, highly entertaining, interactive and informative showcase for over 200 Relationships Australia staff.

ACT Principals' Association Annual Conference

When: 8-10 May 2008

Where: Coachhouse Marina Resort, Batemans Bay

DKC has worked closely with the ACTPA to develop and deliver a range of professional development conferences, workshops and seminars.  The ACTPA first contracted DKC in December 2006 as part of a competitive tender process to manage their State conference in March 2007 and we have worked with the association on other projects since.  In 2008, we again organised the ACTPA Conference.

This second ACT Principals’ Association Conference “Leading Change and Managing Performance”, brought together over 50 delegates for 2½ days of theoretical models and interactive activities in individual, small and whole groups reflecting on application of theory to practice.

Australian Public Service Anti-Corruption Conference

When: 23-26 October 2007

Where: Hilton Hotel, Sydney

The inaugural Australian Public Sector Anti-Corruption Conference (APSACC) presented a unique opportunity for public officials to learn the latest in new anti-corruption trends and strategies and to network with Australian and international public sector peers and leaders.

The four-day event was a joint initiative of Australia’s leading anti-corruption bodies: the Independent Commission Against Corruption (NSW), Crime and Misconduct Commission (QLD) and the Corruption and Crime Commission (WA).

The Gala dinner presented an opportunity for delegates to relax and network.  The entertainment provided was by Salsa Rica, and outstanding comic, Bryan Dawe, in the character of Sir Murray Rivers.

The Australian Public Sector Anti-Corruption Conference was attended by over 500 delegates from Australasia, Asia, the Americas, Europe and Africa.
