DKC is always looking at ways to reduce the environmental impact of our activities. We currently do so by:
- using resources more efficiently and reducing our waste and greenhouse gas emissions
- encouraging our clients to choose ‘green’ products and suppliers for the conferences and events
- offsetting our emissions that result from our conferences and events.
How Green is Your Conference?
There are lots of things that you can do to make your conference ‘greener’. Some of our own practical suggestions that won’t cost you very much at all, and can even save you money, include:
- Conference related documents and emails should display an environmentally friendly logo/statement such as ‘ please consider our environment before printing this document’
- Conference related documents that are produced for participant use should be done on recycled papers and products wherever possible, or better still should be provided electronically
- Conference exhibitors should be encouraged to bring information in an electronic format and do away with handouts
- Provide participants with a USB for information sharing rather than a conference satchel
- Provide participants with access to computer terminals to facilitate the electronic sharing of information
- Minimize the use of paper products at your conference, such as announcing any session or presenter changes rather than providing this information in a hard copy format
- All catering plates, cups and glasses to be china or glass (non-disposable). There should be no styrofoam under any circumstances
- You can ask your conference venue to serve condiments in bulk containers, not individual servings, to save packaging (such as sugar)
- You can ask your conference venue to use cloth napkins whenever possible
- Distribute post conference papers electronically
- Offset the carbon emissions from your conference
